Dual Scan Protocol
A dual scan is a full CBCT scan with the patients existing denture in the mouth, and a 360° scan of the denture out of the mouth. The denture will need to have radiographic markers placed, and it is very important that they do not move from one scan to the next.
These two scans are merged together and used to determine the patient’s VDO and for a soft tissue guide design. The fit of the guide is dependent on the fit of the denture. If the denture is ill fitting, a soft reline or intaglio wash is recommended. The scan of the denture out of the mouth can be done with the CBCT scanner or an intra oral scanner.
